Hi,

Just hoping I'm not the only UK Yankee waiting for Southwark Registry Office's IT Department to fix the Citizenship Ceremony booking system!  I received my invitation to book a citizenship ceremony 8 days ago, but Southwark's booking system has been down the whole week!!! >:(

I'm also nervous because although I received my letter on the 28th, the letter was dated the 17th, so theoretically I've only got until Friday to book the test.  I've emailed the UKBA further citizenship enquiries people, but so far no reply!

So close to citizenship, I never dreamed this would be the problem!

Ugh that sucks! Have you phoned them? They might be able to schedule you manually on their end.

I had my naturalisation ceremony through Southwark at the Peckham Town Hall and it's actually really lovely in there! Big, proper seats for everyone downstairs taking their oaths, and family and friends sit up in the balcony.

Hi,  I've been calling them everyday for more than a week, but they can't do anything.  Well, actually today they decided to start taking down your information so that you have "booked to book" so to speak (i.e. you will be called back with a date when their system works again).  Apparently their system is also down for people trying to give notice to marry as well!

It's just so frustrating as if the system hadn't been down I would already be a UK citizen by now (they had places at this week's ceremonies, they just couldn't book anyone in)!

 ;D UPDATE  ;D

So the (very) good news: I called at exactly (the pips were still echoing on Radio 4) 9am on Tuesday, 11 June.  When I got through on the phone the appointment booking system (used by the staff of Southwark Council to book appointments in) was not running, but it started to work (slowly) while I was on the phone.  Although the system was super-slow, they were able to book my citizenship ceremony for 18 June!  I went and I am now a UK citizen!  :D

Not great News: I discovered when I was at Southwark Registry Office for the ceremony that the booking system is still not working properly.

Tip: Try calling right at 9am—you might be lucky (this might also work if you are calling to make an appointment for anything else as well—marriage, other nationality services, birth registration, etc).  If you are applying for citizenship now, you might want to consider not requesting Southwark as the council you have the ceremony at (although they were great during the actual ceremony).
