I am a UK Yankee newbie and would appreciate any assistance/advice!

My husband and I are expecting our first child in August; at the end of September we are moving to Edinburgh for my husbands PhD program at the University of Edinburgh (for 3 years). His program begins Oct 1.

I know we can send in our visa apps (mine and his) on July 1 or after...but I am wondering if we can go ahead and start the online process now? Also, we have full funding from the University for tuition, plus a £14,000 stipend each year; will we still have to prove how much money we have in the bank now? I understand that his CAS number will show the funding we will receive from the school, I just want to make sure that we don't have to send in a bank statement (I heard they don't like receiving paperwork they didn't ask for). Also, I'm 99% sure we're considered "low risk", but I haven't heard that for sure yet...does that make the process easier?

One last thing! Once our baby is born and we get her birth certificate, we can get a passport for her here in the city within a day or two if we go in to the office and have an appointment...but has anyone successfully applied for an expedited child visa? And if so, did you get it within 15-20 days?

Fingers crossed that she comes a week or two early!

Thank you!

Hi,

Welcome to UK Yankee. And congratulations on your pregnancy! It sounds like you have a very exciting time at the moment with lots going on!!

Being low risk means that you don't have to show all the evidence that non-low risk people have to show. However, the evidence can still be asked for.

If they have included it on the CAS, no other documents would be required anyway. If it's not on the CAS, a non low risk person would have to provide:

Quote
Letter of confirmation from your Official Financial Sponsor on official letter-headed
paper or stationery of the organisation of the official financial sponsor which must have the official stamp of that organisation on it.

The letter must show:
• your name;
• the name and contact details of your official financial sponsor;
• the date of the letter;
• the length of your sponsorship; and
• the amount of money the sponsor is giving to you or a statement that your official
financial sponsor will cover all of your fees and living costs

You can start the online form now and save it, but log in at least every 7 days and save it again as it will be deleted after 7 days.

Thank you! That's very helpful. I'm pretty sure his CAS # has all of his information in the "Sponsors Note" section.

Do you know if he's being fully sponsored by the University, if that would make him a Tier 4 Sponsor Student? I see there are two different Tier 4 applications you can make.

I think you may be getting confused with the Tier 4 (General) which is what you need and the Tier 4 Sponsor Licence application which is what the University/College should have.
