House of Cards
« on: July 04, 2013, 03:35:21 PM »
Watched 8 episodes of this on the flight to the US and back, completely hooked. Stars Kevin Spacey as a rather nasty US Congressman (it's based on a 1990 UK drama of the same name).
My SiL had mantioned they'd watched it and enjoyed it (only showing on Netflix) and given they are staunch Republicans and when I mentioned to them once that my fave programme was The West Wing, thinking they'd also like it being interested in politics my BiL just responded "Well yes, you would"! I did wonder if I would like it thinking it may be well to the right.
But no, it's just intriguing drama and backstabbing and counter-deals. Love it.

So now I need Netflix to catch the final 5 episodes - fortunately DW got the account of a friend who is going back to the States for 2 months so we can use her account! I see that and finally finishing Breaking Bad!

I'm a massive fan of the original (FU, call me!), and was dubious about a remake, but alskjdfljsfl it's SO GOOD. They've taken the nasty, cynical (and yet fun) spirit of the thing, and tailored it perfectly to U.S. politics. The acting is terrific, but they really don't have to work hard to sell such absolutely cracking writing. Total binge-watch material.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I watched all 13 episodes in 26 hrs.  I just couldn't stop myself..."one more episode" I'd tell myself...and then, bam!  I'd watched them all.  Having seen the new one first, I can't quite get into the groove of the original, but I'll keep trying.

I can completely understand that....on the flight over I couldn't believe i was just watching 1 episode after another, just wished I'd started watching as soon as we took off but I watched Argo first. Then when the pilot announced we were on final approach to land I was wondering if I'd be able to finish the episode I was on, fortunately they left the entertainment system on until we got to the gate and there was a plane at our gate so we had to wait 10 mins! And the episode finished just before they shut down the system!
