Credit Report?
« on: June 17, 2013, 06:50:18 PM »
Hello, I was not quite sure where this question would fit, so I am sorry in advance!

I am trying to check my credit in the USA from the UK.  I have tried many websites, and it always asks for a US address to gain access. One website did not ask for one, but did ask me to go through a sequence of security questions asking about credit that I may have.  It alarmed me when it asked me about a mortgage taken out in my name, in the past year ( I do not live in the US so I couldn't have possibly taken out a mortgage).  So anyways- now I am alarmed that someone is using my identity and I can not figure out how to get a credit report.
Upon calling a customer service number-they said I could not have my credit report without a US address.  So now I am officially stumped...and very worried.

Thanks

I check my credit annually and get questions about loans or mortgages that I don't have. Just answer the questions honestly, even if the answer is I don't have a mortgage. It's completely normal. If you still have bank accounts or other financial things in a U.S. address, try that one. Otherwise, I can only suggest your last U.S. address?? As far as I know, there's no penalty for trying and entering the wrong info.
Just an aside, you are legally entitled to a free credit report every year from each of the three bureaus at annualcreditreport.com, the only official site to get a free credit report. Be careful of any others, they may sign you up for monthly monitoring service.

See if one of your friends or family members will let you use their address for things you will need a US address for.  I use my parents.
I get my 3 credit reports monthly ($19.99 a month) through my insurance company USAA.  I used to get it quarterly through my Bank of America account.  So look to your bank if you still have an account in the US.
