Sounds like Florida (similar to Massachusetts) has that law that says that if you renew on-line once, the next time must be in person.  Make an appointment for the start of your trip to Florida and renew in person.  Good luck.

We are in Orkney and I still haven't gotten my UK driving license sorted...maybe this will be the year.

Some states also use having your license as an indicator that you should be paying state taxes.

No one has pointed it out, and you've probably already got it covered, especially if you have the provisional license-  but I will point it out to be sure-   but if you have ILR, you must have been here for more than 1 year-  and are driving around the UK on your US license alone is now illegal...

and....in most states, if you are NOT legally resident, you CANNOT renew (or obtain) a license; best check before you try to renew
Married December 1992 (my 'old flame' whom I first met in the mid-70s)
1st move to UK - 1993 (Letter of Consent granted at British Embassy in Washington DC)
ILR - 1994 (1 year later - no fee way back then!)
Back to US in 2000
Returned to UK July 2011 (Spousal Visa/KOL endorsement)
ILR - September 2011
Application for naturalization submitted July 2014
Approval received 15-10-14; ceremony scheduled for 10 November!
Passport arrived 25 November 2014. Finally done!

It is also worth noting that it can leave you liable for state taxes (California, for example, uses having a license as one of the criteria to determine whether you need to pay taxes).

Jennie is correct about that. Sever ties to avoid state taxes.

By the way, are you contantly being made out to be crazy for giving up Florida for Scotland? I know I sure am :P

Yes I do get that "have you lost your mind?" look, more times than not.  we are going on a temporary 3 year contract, so we get to return to the 100* temps (not sure if im looking forward to that or not) haha
Where in FL are you from?  Cocoa Beach here.  How long have you been in Scotland? You are in the Glasgow area? We will be moving there in about 8 weeks. (Helensburgh)

yes, constantly! people always think i'm crazy. yeah i'm in Coatbridge, have been for 3 years now! I work in Glasgow so it's not too far for me. i'm from orlando originally, and I do seriously miss the sunshine! good luck on your move :)
