Anyone familiar with Balloch area?
« on: July 01, 2013, 07:25:26 PM »
Anyone familiar with the Balloch Area?  We did a drive through the area a few years ago and am planning on moving to the Glasgow/Helensburgh area.  Hubby wants to look at the Balloch area also.  My concern is that when we visited a few years ago I didn't really see it as a "walking community" I want to be able to walk to the store, bank, pubs, train station etc. Is there an area there that we would be able to do this?  ???

Hi, in case you haven't found an answer to your question already, I'm not hugely familiar with Balloch but pass through regularly.

If you just drive through from the A82 towards Balmaha and Stirling it doesn't look very "walkable", but Balloch sort of merges into Alexandria and it does have a Main Street area with banks, train station etc, and residential areas nearby.  In fact I'd say Alexandria station is within walking distance of Balloch station.

Balloch is at the north end of the Vale of Leven, straddling the River Leven itself. It connects to the larger town of Alexandria and to the smaller village of Jamestown, both of which are located to its south. To the east of the town lies the major local authority housing scheme in the area known as 'The Haldane' or 'The Mill of Haldane'. Balloch railway station is a terminus of the North Clyde electric train service from Glasgow. The largest number of boats cruising on Loch Lomond leave from here. It contains Balloch Country Park and Balloch Castle. Balloch also has a local shop which is currently having an extension constructed. There is a village hall, a bowling club, a village trust and a community council.
