Homes around Huddersfield
« on: August 23, 2014, 10:06:59 PM »
It's looking like the Huddersfield area is probably where we will end up. Near enough to Harrogate for my wife's family there. She already has one son living in Huddersfield, in Fartown. Fartown gets nothing but grief online, but we didn't think it was that bad the times we have been there. If we had to buy right now I would lean towards the Holmfirth/Honley/Meltham area to the South or that slot through Marsden/Slaithwaite/Golcar to the West. We have done LOTS of online house hunting and there are certainly some things in both areas we like and can afford. Several of those towns don't seem to have much online to fill in gap in our knowledge. Holmfirth of course is where they filmed Last of the Summer Wine. Meltham has a couple places we like.....and has a Morrison's which is my wife's favorite store. All these places are also very close to Huddersfield. Besides the house.....the emphasis is on places to walk/run/ride. My wife walks the dogs 3-4 miles every day so needs some good places fairly close to the house.....I walk 4-10 miles. Nice combination of woods and open moor areas are great and all the areas mentioned above seem to cover this. Having a good supermarket/pub/Indian restaurant etc in walking distance is also very high on the list. I know there are several people on here that are Leeds area people. And on that point.....my step daughter is changing jobs from Harrogate hospital to Leeds hospital and will likely move in less than a year. Any recommendations for homes in the Leeds area for 110-120K Pounds for a young nurse?

I was hoping for the Scarborough area at first.....but I think my wife has zapped that idea since it isn't close to anybody. Can't say I blame her.

Lucky you... Huddersfield has some great pubs!

Check out the Rat & Ratchet (my favourite!), The Grove, and The Sportsman.  Also the Head of Steam and the Kings Head on the station.
