Hi All,
Firstly what a fantastic forum! This is exactly what I've been looking for and I hope someone may be able to help me.
I apologise for the slightly long post, but I would appreciate you taking the time to consider my situation and see if there is anything that can be done.
My name is Rob Jarvis and I'm actually a UK citizen but I went to college in the Oklahoma for 4 years on a golf scholarship. In my time there I found myself falling hopelessly in love with an American girl (I hope that's not too lame to admit! haha) and when I graduated I came home and seeing as she had over a year left of her degree we sadly decided to break up. Since she has graduated just recently she is now looking to move here - something she has always wanted to do regardless of me, and we have recently been talking again and now I want to help her as much as possible to do so.
Our feelings for each other although still there, have somewhat deteriorated so we're unfortunately not in a position where we intend to get married - although I understand that would be the easiest option! However, we don't want to do that right now.
I have looked into many options for her such as schooling and work and I have a couple of things lined up now where she could move here which is great, however they are not what she would truly like to do. She is a makeup artist and currently works in a salon in the Oklahoma, but obviously in this line of work you can be self employed.
My question is - to save a company sponsoring her visa and going through all the processes that they would have to in order to hire her, can she simply apply for self-employment in the UK as long as she can prove that she has enough money to back herself and somewhere to live? If so, what processes/forms would need to be carried out to achieve this?
Thanks very much for reading and I look forward to your responses.
Kind regards,
Rob
