Question and observation about charity shops
« on: November 08, 2013, 05:37:17 PM »
I love, love, love going to all the charity shops. I adore costume jewelry, handbags and accessories and have found a ton of gorgeous things at a variety of shops for next to nothing.

We also donate regularly and I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question. We never see the things we donate in the shops. So I am curious, is it normal practice to send the items to another shop so people don't see your things in the shop? I didn't word that very well, but I think it is understandable. ;)

Also, for anyone with a dressy occasion coming up, check out your local charity shop. I saw a couple dozen gorgeous little dress bags in our local Prince of Wales Trust. I almost bought a couple "just in case" I was invited somewhere, but decided to leave them for someone who truly needs one. ;)  They also had some really cool heels (that I would have grabbed in a second pre-accident when I could actually wear high heels!), and a couple dresses. Such awesome finds for the right person! Just thought I'd mention it.

Well, she was an American girl, raised on promises.
She couldn't help thinking that there was a little more to life, somewhere else.
After all it was a great big world, with lots of places to run to.
And if she had to die trying she had one little promise she was gonna keep.

At the charity shop I volunteer at, it really depends on how much gets donated in a certain space of time as to if things get sent to another store or not. Also, sometimes things just go that quickly! We were tagging, steaming, and pricing things as quickly as we could last Wednesday and we couldn't keep up with people buying things, which is wonderful, but also a bit stressful.

Hey there fellow charity shop worker!  :)  I'm an assistant manager at a charity shop.  What Mrs_T_M said is right--stuff just goes that quickly when it is good stuff!  We never send our stuff on to other shops, when it comes in we grab it, process it, put it out right away if at all possible.

Mrs TM and Andee - I guess that explains it then. It does seem like a very busy shop an often I don't go in for a couple weeks after a donation.

Stephanie - awesome! :)

I don't think I could work at a charity shop. I'd be spending wayyy too much money!
