Been here 5 days
« on: November 25, 2013, 08:06:35 PM »
Hi all,

I'm an American married to a British citizen.  I lived here in the UK with my husband for six months back in 2006 before we were married, and have visited his family here once a year or so ever since.

We have been living in the USA for the past seven years, but my DH really missed his family so we have moved back.  The visa process wasn't too bad.  We sent them a pile of supporting documents 3 inches thick, and they approved my visa in less than a week.

We are currently living with my grandmother-in-law in Peterborough.  DH is doing consulting work remotely for two companies in the US while he looks for a job.  Once he finds a job we want to buy a house.  We are lucky that we have the money to pay about 50% down.  Still, we are worried about getting a mortgage with no UK credit history.  We already ran into trouble with mobile contracts and had to go payg.  Has anyone had any experience with trying to get a mortgage?

I'm glad to find this forum with so many people going through the same thing.  I've lived n both Greece and England in the past but always knew it was temporary.  It feels really different this time knowing it's for good.

Definitely agree with this!  Congratulations on making it past the immigration hurdles at the start, and best of luck in settling into your new home.
