Flying with Christmas Goodies!
« on: December 14, 2013, 12:26:33 PM »
Mister and I are spending Christmas in the states this year with my family (getting so exctied, we've spent the past 3 here and it's just not the same).  We're flying out next Saturday and I can't wait!

Just wondering as far as bringing gifts and such, I know Christmas crackers are the no-no, but I wanted to bring some M&S Christmas puddings.  Are those ok to fly with in checked luggage?  Also, should I just wait to wrap gifts until I get over there?  If my bag gets searched, will they unwrap gifts?  I also am baking Christmas cookies, truffles, mince pies, are those ok to fly with?  I think most of it will be going in my checked luggage anyway, so hoping it won't be a problem!

My husband and I flew to the states for Christmas last year and took Christmas crackers. We asked the airline when we were checking our luggage in and they said that as long as they are in original packaging and in checked luggage then it was completely fine. We flew with BA.

I have successfully flown with wrapped gifts before but they probably take less room if unwrapped.  Food is fine if it's not fresh dairy or meat.  Just declare that you have food on your customs form.

Just an fyi - Christmas crackers are becoming much more widely available here. I even saw some at Target the other day for a reasonable price. I agree that everything else is fine. I would fly unwrapped. Yes, they'll unwrap if they need to search your bag and the paper will just get ruined anyway.

I agree about the wrapped presents. Why put time and effort into wrapping things beautifully when it'll all just get crushed anyway?

All the food is fine to bring. Have a great time!
