Shipping
« on: February 11, 2014, 09:57:24 PM »
Okay- so I'm having a terrible time with shipping info.  Most of the people I've talked to are US military or government so they didn't have to ship their own belongings.

We really don't want to ship much at all.  A small set of bunk-beds, some clothing and toys. The first quote I got back was $1,300 for a crate that was 60"x40"x40"

Is that normal/reasonable?  I feel like there should be some cheaper options.

And how about customs? What if I just had family members mail boxes of clothing to me?   Can you tell I have no idea what I'm doing?

Hi,

You'll need to shop around and ask for various quotes from shippers who have and can handle internationally for private house moves etc.

Unless the bunk beds have real sentimental value, I'd say not to bother shipping them, there's plenty of bunk beds available here. Clothing and toys are of course much more personal so perhaps quote for those only?

I'd also suggest you make a comprehensive itemised list of exactly what you want to bring and get quotes. You might be able to re-jig based on anything you decide you can just get over here.

Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough UK!
