You use your passport number.

It is now a requirement for all airline passengers to give their passport details to the airline when they fly

The visa number means nothing to anyone except UK immigration, so whether you have a visa or not when booking a flight is irrelevant...it is the airline staff in the US who will be checking your identification (passport) when you check in for your flight.
