Accomdation Requirement
« on: February 03, 2014, 06:32:46 PM »
Hi,

Thank you for your help in advance. My wife and I are currently putting together our application for a spousal visa. I have a question about the accommodation requirement. We have a letter from our landlady confirming we are able to stay here accompanied by a copy of our contract.

The house is very big and there are currently 7 people living here in total. Each person/couple has their own room. there are 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen and living room. I have read that we may need to get an inspection done by the council. Is this necessary? it costs over £100 and I would rather avoid it if possible.

Best wishes,

Oliver

Where did you read that?  An inspection is not required.

I've read it from a few lawyers websites and from lists of supporting documents other people have sent with their application. I'm relieved that we don't have to provide one.

We have decided to include the HMO (House of multiple occupancy) license from the council just to make sure. It will detail the landlord’s name and address,
details of the person or company managing the accommodation, the number of rooms, the number of self-contained flats, and a list of shared amenities and information about anything that has been referred to a legal tribunal – such as the level of rent.

Does that sound like it will be enough?

When you are living in shared accommodation they will be concerned about overcrowding.  One way to alleviate that concern is to get a property inspection.  It's up to you but with so many people living in the same place it's probably a good idea.
