Yes, I've seen virtually no screens.  On windows, doors... hence my aversion to flying creatures has been further enhanced since moving here.

And when I ask where I can find a water filter that goes on the actual faucet, I am met with blank stares, then sometimes 'now that's a very good idea.'

So I take it they're not easy to come by here either.

Nope you can't get those here, we tried and failed miserably. My parents have a separate tap for the filtered water or you can get a filter jug. We just buy bottled water.  Outside the Thames water area you are probably ok with the normal tap water though.

Why outside the Thames?  I'm in that area and will say 1. taking a shower is like dipping oneself in undiluted chlorine and 2. our water stinks of fish all summer long.

I don't know why exactly but the water definitely tastes better in other places. I can't drink water out of the Thames, it tastes of old boots and gives me a sore throat.
