I just read this this morning too. Though they aren't meant to start for another few years. Norwegian are starting £150 from Gatwick to the US this summer. Nearly booked my flight with them this morning.

I just checked Norwegian air flights to New York in November and after adding in the meal, baggage and seat reservation charge the total was just over £400, which is not really much of a discount considering I paid £418 to fly Virgin a few weeks ago and received miles.

Maybe Ryanair can work some magic and make it less expensive but I can't imagine flying on one of their planes for 7 hours - too painful.

I was looking at one way flights yesterday, so things seemed cheap. :) I do like having the option of not paying for those things though. I have a ton of food allergies and most specialty meals on planes are pretty paltry. So it's nice knowing I could bring my own food and save a bit.

Well the normal stuff isn't exactly 4 star.

My big dislike of airline food is that you get the little meal of curry or what have you and you are stuck with the tray down for 45 minutes....staring at a half-eaten tinfoil thing.

I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC
