Chicago to Perth, Scotland! 7 years on...
« on: April 02, 2014, 09:43:40 PM »
HI,

I'm 28, living in Perth. I've been all over Tayside Scotland. I moved here in April 2007.

I miss:
Taco Bell
Victoria's Secret
Using the letter Z instead of S
Being able to buy Wonton Wrappers
Cheese Sauce
Good Pizza

I now love:
Eating food without so many preservatives/chemicals
Free healthcare
Free prescriptions
My Scottish husband
That housing is soooo cheap!

I do wish I had more friends though, American or not.

I have a 5 year old son who was born here and hasn't been back to America since he was 5 months old. We're going home to "Granny Linda's" in October 2014.

My Mom hates being called "Granny" She says its old ladyish.

Hi Christine! I'm down the road from you in northeast Fife. If you think housing here is cheap, Chicago must really be expensive! I could buy my childhood home twice over for the cost of a 2 bed flat where I live!
For wanton wrappers, try Chinese supermarkets. I know there is one in Dundee and one Edinburgh. I have a pack in my freezer right now! I actually prefer most of the pizzas here to most of the US chains, but I guess if you're comparing to Chicago deep dish, nothing will come up to scratch! You'd be hard-pressed to get that anywhere outside Chicago though. I only had it for the first time last summer when I spent a couple of days there on my way to a work conference.
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012
FINALLY A CITIZEN! 29/2/2012
