Length to wait after student visa to re-enter with a passport?

Hello all,

Hopefully this is an easy question. Usually I can find the info I'm looking for on the UKBA site, but I haven't been able to track this bit down.

How long after living in the UK on a student visa do I have to wait before I can re-enter with just my passport as a tourist?

I've heard (but don't know for sure) that you have to wait three months to re-enter if you visit for three months on a passport. Is it also three months after a (14 month) visa expires, or do you have to wait longer?

There's no set time that you have to wait.

As long as you can show that you are a genuine visitor, that you will leave within 6 months, that you have a life to return to in your home country, and that you aren't just trying to 'extend' your student visa by coming back to 'live' in the UK as a visitor, you should be able to re-enter whenever you like.

I know people that renetered after just a few days without a problem

I would make sure it's a few days though. One girl told me she just did a quick overnight and the IO let her but was a bit disgruntled about it.

That's just a disgruntled BFO.  As advised above, the time is no relevant, it is just about the migrant showing they are a genuine visitor.  Which they may or may not be!
