I don't drive in London, but it might be worth looking at parking at a Tube station on the outskirts of London and coming in by public transport. Parking can be difficult, expensive or plain old impossible - especially trying to get to the centre for an 8.30a appointment.

The embassy is within walking distance of Marble Arch (Central Line), Bond Street (Central and Jubilee Lines), Hyde Park Corner (Piccadilly Line) and Green Park (Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria Lines) Tube stations. It's about 10-15 minutes walking from any of those stations.

You might be better off parking at Stanmore tube station (M1 Jct 4), largeish car park there, and then get Jubilee line into London.

Thanks for the help.
i would like to avoid taking the tube if at all possible ..
with the new born and a 2 year old i think it will be difficult .
i remember going for my 2 year old's registration and we took the train and it was really a struggle .
i would like to get as close as possible to the embassy and then walk or bus it.
i have seen that if you pay congestion charges for London you can get pretty close to it the embassy
about a 15-20 minute walk

When I went a couple of weeks ago there was supposed to be a tube strike.  I had done a google search for "Grosvenor Square car park" and found loads of pre-book able options.  Just make sure you leave LOTS of extra time for traffic.

The strike was cancelled so we parked and took the tube.  It was surprisingly easy even with a pram but we didn't have a toddler as well!

I don't know if you have already had your appointment, but parkopedia lists car parks near the US embassy.
