Going Home via US Federal and HM Prisons!
« on: October 28, 2004, 10:28:49 PM »
Hi...
My first post of course, I am introducing myself.
I am a Brit married to an American, been here for years and married for two.
Our story is a sad one, stupid and sad...I am going to have to spend some time in Federal prison (maybe here in California) and then I shall be deported back to the UK. I shall be applying for the Prisoner Transfer treaty and hope to be approved so should be back in the UK after about 18 months or so.
Question..my husband and are very happy together and will get thru this, but would appreciate any help as to how can he apply for marriage visa/work permit etc. when I am not in possesion of my passport, for obvious reasons, and if anyone knows anything about HM Prisons.
Sounds awfully shocking I know, but we are really good people, and I just got caught up with some crafty characters way back before I met my hubby and they all got caught and I was dragged into the conspiracy, enough said, no excuses, i broke the law and will do my TIME, but want to help my hubby get back to the UK with information now rather than be unable to when I am in Prison.
Help me if you can.
Thanks
Jane

Well Jane... sorry to hear about your ordeal.  I take it you are not in prison yet since I have a feeling the internet will be a bit harder to come by there.  Must say that's got to be a bad place to find yourself . . .

I think the best thing for you to do is to seek a lawyers advice in your situation.  Perhaps your own lawyer or someone she/he can recommend.  While a lot of us have made it to the UK I can't recall quite anyone in your given situation.

Best of luck and I hope you find what you need and welcome to the site.

Hello and welcome. Your situation is sad; I hope everything works out well for you.

As Vnice said, I would seek the advice of a lawyer ASAP!

Also as a side note, please be careful what you write online- even in emails, private messages, chats, etc... {especially on message boards!}

Take care.

I wish i had something to say to help, but i don't.  Like everyone has said, i think the best thing is to ask a lawyer what options you have.

Wow!  What a story, I wish you the best of luck.  This site offers loads of important information, though like the others have posted, I would see a Attroney pronto.

Good luck Jane. All I can suggest is applying for his visa before your incarceration.

Thank you all very much for your notes of welcome and concern. Time will tell as far as what I am going to be able to do, but the British Vice Consulate here is helping me now.

Looking forward to some quiet time again one day back in the old country over a cuppa and some rich te biscuits!!!
Thx Again, will keep paying attention to the site and check out the visa section as much as poss>>>
