Monthly bank transfer from a US bank to a UK account?
« on: July 11, 2014, 03:07:49 PM »
Hi all,

I wonder if there is anyone here who has experience setting up monthly bank/wire/electronic transfer from a US bank account to a UK account.

I am trying to rent a flat before I arrive in the UK, and the letting agency I've been communicating with told me that as part of the requirement, they need confirmation that "a standing order for ongoing rental payments has been set up" with my bank account. I take it to mean regular scheduled bank transfers between my account and the agency's account.

Since I won't be able to open a bank account before I arrive in the UK, the only solution seems to be using my US account. I wonder if anyone has experience doing it. Unfortunately, my current bank does not do international fund transfer :-/, but if there is any US banks that can do that, I can open an account with one of them. Thanks!

I don't think anyone on here has had success doing this.  Is there no way you can explain the situation to the letting agent?

I did. Still waiting for their reply. But I am just preparing for the worst case scenario :)

Dealt with the same situation. Luckily our letting agent let us pay by credit card (for a fee, of course) until we got a bank account set up. Getting our American money into our UK bank account has been an incredible headache.

Maybe they will accept a few months rent in advance when you sign the lease?  Then you can have a but of time to get a UK account set up when you arrive.
