Working in Child Care
« on: July 21, 2014, 07:37:08 PM »
Hello,

I did a search for this, but all the posts on it are 5 years or more out of date, so I hope it's okay for me to ask again...

I will hopefully be joining my husband-to-be in England sometime towards the end of 2015 or early 2016.  (We currently live in Japan.) I know that's kind of far away, but I'm quite worried about finding work once I'm there.

I'm American. 33 years old.  I have two bachelors degrees from the US, in psychology and sociology, but have never actually done work in either field.  I've been teaching English to children in Japan for the last 7 years.  At my job, I'm am usually the only adult in the school. I'm responsible for teaching and supervising classes of up to 15 children, all on my own.  Ages 1 to 17.  Most of my students are ages 1-10.

I've done nanny-type work in the past.  However, I don't have any actual certifications in child care or education.  But I DO have lots and lots of experience with children.

I'm wondering how I would go about finding work related to child care once I'm in England.  Is there any kind soul out there who could explain to me what kind of qualifications are needed, and how I could go about getting them?  For example, what would I need in order to work in a nursery/day-care type facility?  How about places like Gymboree?

Thanks so much!  All info is appreciated.  :)
Will sell soul for Duke's Mayonnaise.
