Child's car seat - US to UK
« on: July 22, 2014, 04:09:58 PM »
Hi - I'm planning our move next July to the UK...or just starting to think about things.  Anyway, my youngest daughter will be ready for a new car seat before we move.  Does anyone know if the child's seats in the US are compatible (and comply) with the UK?  If they are similar even, I wonder if I should get a UK one and use it here for a few months before we leave.  And my older daughter is in a front facing convertible (to booster) child's seat.

Thanks in advance!!
2001 - moved to the UK on a student visa
2002 - 2 year work visa (and met hubby later that year)
2004 - moved w UKC hubby to US
2012 - UKC hubby now a dual national (USC)
Apr 2015 - moved back to UK w DH and two DD

There's a sticky topic on this exact subject under the Pregnancy and
Parenting board here on UKY. Hope that helps!

No worries! FWIW, I was in the same situation a few years ago, with a high-dollar Britax that we loved, we brought it and used it until she outgrew it despite the legalities, but then found that we couldn't get rid of it as if didn't meet EU standards. (Couldn't bear to toss it,  so we wound up hauling it back to the States one visit and letting a friend have it!)

Mothercare, Toys/BabiesRUs and Kiddiecare all have websites if you want to have a look at what you can get here.

Oh thank you!  I'm going to visit those sites to get an idea of cost.  And I will assume I need to get new seats within a short time of arriving....and I won't get the prem car seat here before we go!
