Pre-clearance for customs/immigration
« on: January 03, 2015, 03:54:55 PM »
Years ago we flew to Boston via Shannon and were delighted to find you could do US customs and immigration screening while still in Ireland.  This is also available at Dublin.

Just wondering if anyone's done this recently.  It was very laid back and certainly saved a lot of aggro on arrival back then.

It's very nice!!!  Really straight forward, doesn't take long and the immigration officers don't give you a hard time for 'living overseas'.  Plus, when you land back in Logan, BostonDiner, your baggage comes out at the domestic/Southwest airline side in Terminal E, instead of the international side.  Saves lots of hassle.

Thanks, PB.  DH was particularly concerned about what happens at Logan (we couldn't remember  ::) )  The last two times we arrived at Logan immigration was a hell-hole.  Both queues were miles long.

Yeap, from the pre-clearance, you just get off the plane like it was a domestic flight.

From the non-pre-clearance side, they've started doing computer passport scanning at Logan - queues have been much better recently!

Since last September?  I was tempted to grab a wheelchair and go through the handicapped line.  :P

ETA: I read online somewhere that pre-clearance from Dublin only applies to morning flights. If that is so, how do you wangle that if you have to connect from UK airport?
