From the Land of Enchantment to the Poole
« on: September 20, 2014, 12:05:47 AM »
Hi all!

My husband actually sent me this site to help me research the big transition from the US to the UK.  It has been very helpful! (Should have posted this months ago..)

We are both active duty - he is Royal Marines and I am US Air Force (separating).  We met through a mutual friend in Afghanistan and started actually dating once we were both at our respective homes..That was over two years ago.  Because of service commitments we have not been able to live together until now.  Needless to say we are excited that our transition can finally take place.

I look forward to chatting with you.  Thank you for all of the posts - they have been so helpful.  I only wish I would have looked at some more before today!

 :)

Welcome!

I too wished I had seen the forum long before I joined! Everyone is so knowledgable and friendly. It's been great these last few months.

Best of luck on your upcoming move, I know it's can be a bit hectic getting everything together. I still have about 8 boxes in my parents closet I need to ship over. I came with only 2 checked bags and a carry on. It's been an adventure!
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Thanks for the reply!

That's not a lot of stuff!  I got pretty lucky that I had a final move with the military - so that is being shipped.. Now just living in an empty house waiting on a visa! haha

You are quite welcome! I know it can be a bit daunting. *grins*

And no, it really isn't. I didn't have a whole lot to bring really that my now husband didn't have! I just need my books, and other important small irreplaceable things. I didn't and still don't NEED them, I just want them. *grins*

Being packed up and waiting has got to be an itchy feeling. Are you just raring to go?

Hi!

I'm also moving soon, and I feel like I'm getting really anxious about things I might be forgetting to take care of. I know how I'm moving all of my physical things, but I'm worried I will forget something like canceling my phone. How are you staying on top of everything? It sounds like the military takes care of a lot. Did they give you a checklist?

I'm so happy you get to join him! It's such a relief to finally get to the point of moving.
