Cadbury Philadelphia cream cheese is really yummy -especially on toast, with slice bananas or strawberries and some walnuts or peanuts sprinkled on

It also makes a really good frosting, straight from the tub

Cadbury Phila cream cheese, you say?????  I must find this when I arrive!

There's Philadelphia Cream Cheese here. All you have to do is type Philadelphia into Sainsbury's or Tesco or Morrison's and they have the brand. I was happy because I'll be able to make my dad's NY Style Cheesecake since it's here!

DW is addicted to the Cadbury Philly cream cheese. For a while Morrisons did their own brand but stopped doing it.
That and the chilli creamcheese which is great with pretzels!

But for general cream cheese you will easily find Philadephia at any supermarket, we've had it for decades, and most supermarkets also do their own brand.

I feel your pain. In nine years I have never seen whipped cream cheese here (not London, Birmingham, nor Shropshire). My mom knows to have a tub of Temp Tee in the fridge whenever I come home and now my husband loves it too. I have even been known to eat a spoonful straight out of the tub.

I don't think the 'Whipped' philly or other cream cheese is available, but I did find something called 'Almette' (http://www.almette.co.uk/), which makes a pretty acceptable substitute.  It's got the right consistency, but is maybe slightly less 'tangy' in flavor.

Of course, your other option is to buy regular cream cheese, and then whip it yourself.  I don't think there's any magic to it-- it's just got extra air, so why pay for that?  Use an electric mixer, add in any extra flavorings you might want (cinnamon, honey, cocoa, taco seasoning), and store it in an air-tight container in the fridge.  There's a 'recipe' here: http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/whipped-cream-cheese, which calls for adding a little milk while you're whipping, but I don't know if that's strictly necessary

Whip your own, I guess.

Exactly.  Why pay for air?

Also, PB mentioned the chocolate Philly as being good enough to use for frosting.  I don't think it would be sweet enough for that, but I suppose you could add extra sugar/splenda to make it more sweet.

Yeah, if you were going for any of the 'sweet' flavours (chocolate, apple-cinnamon, etc.) you'd definitely need to add at least some additional sweeteners, even if you preferred to make them less sweet-tasting than the commercial brands (which can be a bit much).

It's all about learning to adapt.  There is no strawberry cream cheese.  So I put the cream cheese on my bagel, then slather on strawberry jam.  Doesn't get much better than that!  Well, in the UK anyway.

...unless you mix the two together.  Then you can have more-or-less exactly what you want.

There are ways and ways of adapting.
