Applying for Seasonal Temp Jobs
« on: October 28, 2014, 01:38:15 PM »
We have been here about 10 months now and nothing has panned out on the professional front so we thought we would do seasonal work in the run up to Christmas.  There are opportunities here in London, but they all want some form of a CV and cover letter.  That is no problem, but I feel weird sending in my professional CV, when all I really would like is something part time for a few weeks - honest! :)

Should I rewrite into a functional format?  I have recent experience in seasonal warehouse work too that obviously isn't included on my professional one. Its just been ages since I worked in a shop and while I am not averse to the work, I don't want my resume to appear like I am!

Or am I just way overthinking this?

A friend of mine is a rocket scientist.  Seriously.  She was out of work for awhile and was desperate for work.  She had a resume that did not include her crazy high education and work experience.  With that she was successful in finding temp work until she found a suitable professional job.  This is in the US, but I think it would be the same here.  No one would touch her with her "real" resume.

Yeah - working on this I think I will strip out the masters degree and highlight skills earned from other jobs and try and hide the professional titles.  If they just had an application form it would be so much easier!

Hoping that my spiel about "earning more for continued travel in the new year" will be a good cover for a year without employment :/
