Yep....got it. I just wonder about people who even though retired.....spend a lot of time traveling....or those who do business and regularly travel. Not an issue with us.... So you are planning on spending over 50% of your time in the UK?
While I was working we had to report all our time out of the country to the company who kept a close track of days in other countries. Our HQ was in Brussels so lots of us spent many days day, and when we were building a new plant overseas engineers often spent many months on site. So yes, it got very complicated but company accountants and tax advisors kept things straight for the employees.
As for us, we do intend to spend 6 or months each year in the UK. For the past 5 years we have left Texas for about 6 months each year to avoid the heat. This year we left July 7th and got back November 20th and spent all our time away in Australia and New Zealand, plus a week in Vanuatu. Next year will be the Pacific NW, Alaska, Canada, Wyoming and Utah.
I keep a spreadsheet for all travel to the UK with dates of arrival and departure and the spreadsheet calculates days per year and the 4 year rolling average. Be nice to retire that spreadsheet.
By 2016 we plan to slow down and have a permanent place in N Yorkshire and live close to all our siblings and other friends and family.
