I thought it could be interesting (and forgive me if it's been done before) to start a thread about the interesting things kids and teens can 'do' in Britain. To explain myself a bit, I mean things like the Duke of Edinburgh award or the system of grading (1-8) for kids studying music or the various opportunities for training towards a job whilst in secondary school.
I know there's lots of great things about growing up in the states, but sometimes I think us expats can look down at the youth experience here in Britain just because it lacks that hometowny, innocent vibe, and maybe it seems like kids here grow too soon. I moved over here for starters when I was seventeen as a university student and definitely noticed a difference between myself and my peers that related to this excess of opportunity (travel abroad, youth theatres, even the exam system itself).
So, if anyone wants to chime in, I'd love to hear about the various enriching things kids and young peoe can get up to, to keep in mind for my own girls in the future!
Cheers!
