Land Registry issue
« on: January 17, 2015, 04:14:46 AM »
Just got off my butt and was looking for my wife's parents land registry this evening. It isn't there. We have the address right....it just doesn't come up as anything other than an error.  They have lived there for almost 30 years. One of her son's addresses show up....although you can't really see what you are "buying" for the 3 Pounds. I thought it was more than 3 Pounds. Any advice?

Ooops.....I will put this on the VISA forum......it wouldn't let me remove this post. Although......why can't I delete my own post?

For £3 (last time I did it) you get a copy of what our solicitor called the "deeds", and what the Land Registry calls the "Title Register"; another £3 gets you a copy of the Title Plan, which is just an outline map. This is not to be confused with a"deed" as we know it in the USA;  it just gave our details as owners of the property, date of transfer (when we bought the house) etc.

As I understand it, so older properties may not have made it onto the digital/on-line records. There's also some newer properties that aren't there based on my experience searching a couple of years back.

Worst case is someone will need to make a trip to the local Land Registry office - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/land-registry-office-addresses/office-addresses - and proceed from there. It may well be that there's been an address change, or the property was listed by "plot" in an estate rather than address. Who knows?
