'American' Diner, Belfast
« on: November 02, 2004, 03:37:44 PM »
A diner called Ruby's has opened on Linenhall Street, behind City Hall and at the back of the BBC. It's 'American' style, not too bad, a good place to try for lunch sometime if you are down the town.

Hi Stella, do you know if it is anything to do with the California chain Ruby's?

It has the same logo on it's menu, but does not have the same menu or decor.

What kind of stuff was on there? I think I may go and try this on Thursday. It will be my last NI treat before I go back to the states for 2 months

Loads of milkshakes, sandwiches and stuff, and breakfasts, a decent breakfast burrito.

Did someone say breakfast?  I just love going out for breakfast, especially on a Sunday.  Do you know Stella if they happen to be open on Sunday?  I think I have seen this one before, but not knowing Belfast too well I could be confused.   ;D

Have no idea about Sundays but I think they are open for Saturdays. You know how weird this place is for opening hours!

There are a few places but they tend to be a bit of a rip off. There's a chain called Ed's diner which isn't bad but very overpriced, it's aimed at tourists really. There are a few branches of TGI Fridays and Chilis around and a few other "American Style" places here and there and a few Mexican/Tex Mex.  There is a American diner somewhere in Notting Hill - it is supposed to be quite authentic but I've never been there myself.  There's nothing like Ruby's though!

Yes I certainly do Stella.  Well, then I will go on Saturday and pretend it is Sunday then  ::)  Have you been to Springsteen's American Diner on the Lisburn Road?  The atmosphere is great, the food could use some improving though.  I was having a nacho craving and we went there and I had the most disgusting nacho's I have ever consumed.  They had used flour tortillas as opposed to corn and then fried them.  They then put all of the toppings (not too much) on top of them.  The salsa had no cilantro in it, so really how could it be salsa.  They were a soggy stinking mess.  So, I do not know really what my point is, other than maybe I could give them a few pointers in how to do American food.  I do like the atmosphere however, it feels just like home.  Let me know if you have ever been there and your opinions.  Oh and I found fresh cranberries from the good ole USA last night at Sainsbury's!  I am happy.   ;D
