My kitty back in the US passed away last night
« on: January 23, 2015, 08:01:33 PM »
I only just found out. He was one of my childhood pets. We got him when I was 12.

He was such a great cat. A little love sponge who just wanted the snuggles.
18 is a great age for a cat.

I'm so sad I didn't see him again after I moved away.
.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Oh lyonaria, I'm so sorry to hear your fur baby has passed on.  It sounds like he had a wonderful life giving and getting snuggles and love.  They give us so much and it hurts so very much when they have to leave us so soon.  My best to you and your family.
Here 2 years as of Oct. 1, 2016.

Sending you so many hugs. It is never easy to lose a furry loved one, but the distance makes it so much harder. Be gentle with yourself and allow yourself all the feelings that come with healing. Smile when you think of happy memories.

“We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”
― Dr. Seuss

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. It is really hard. It's the first loss to happen since I moved. It makes me worry more about my corgi who's living with my parents. He's getting on in years too (he's 11 or 12) and I haven't seen him in almost a year either. I really don't want to go to work today. *sigh*

I'm sorry powers that be, I accidentally posted this to the wrong area of the forum. I thought I'd clicked on the one for dealing with loss and being far away... obviously not. Please feel free to move it.

I'm really sorry for you (and the cat, though I assume he "had a good innings".

We're bringing an elderly cat to the UK this summer and we're torn about putting him through the move vs leaving him with a relative.  Fortunately Boston is relatively short flight.  A 20lb 13 year old ex alpha male cat who is now enjoying retirement as a lap kitty.

It's definitely a difficult choice to make. I wish I had lived closer to the coast rather than in CO. Where I lived meant 18+ hours of traveling. Arrival at the airport 2 hours prior to flight, then it was 16 hours of travel (90 minute flight, 4 hour layover, 9 hour flight, then however long it would be for unloading, etc.) I couldn't put a pet through that. It wouldn't be fair.

Sheesh that's so sad. A long life for your sweet friend and I'm sure you have zillions of memories. Hang on to them!
