He says he's US/UK dual national.  I thought expat Brits were not entitled to NHS unless they showed they were permanently re-settled (??)

From the article:   I recently returned to London after 20 years in America

I took that quote to mean that he had resettled in the UK.  I didn't see anything in the article indicating that his stay was temporary.

Exactly.  If you follow the link "I recently returned to London after 20 years in America" in the article it takes you to another article

Over the past 10 years US healthcare has gone from merely expensive to absolutely intolerable.  High deductible insurance is the norm, with insurance companies doing everything they can to avoid paying legitimate claims, and with hospitals inflating bills by any multiples in order to establish a negotiating position.

I cannot wait for the day when I never have to set foot in another US hospital.

Panorama this week did a 30 minute program on an ER unit at a Hospital in Stockton-on-Tees. (available on iPlayer)

They had done a program a year ago at the same unit when they were meeting their target of 95% of all folks arriving at the ER being processed, treated and moved on within 4 hours, but this winter they were really struggling to hit their targets, due to a very large increase in people turning up at the ER.

The program was very well presented in my opinion and the hospital and staff were shown in a very good light.
