So it'll be spending an hour waiting on an international call for an answer from someone who knows less than you.

Hmmmm, no mention of the newly opened Israeli office.

I suppose there really is no further need for IRS remote offices since every local bank and FFI in the world is now a branch of the IRS and an interpreter of US immigration law to define who is a US citizen or tax payer. I wonder, may we now go to these FFI's for help in unravelling the intricacies of the US Code and preparing US 1040 returns?

I love the tone of the article, that the IRS office is to stop tax evasion rather than help the worried US expat file and pay their taxes correctly.

The IRS London Office has give me some great advice over the years and gives clear and common sense advice that is often different form the professional take on the situation....it's often a sensible customer friendly solution rather than a rigorous and pedantic interpretation of the law.

We should send them a card or something to say thanks and that we'll miss them! I'm going to send them a personal card....here is the address

U.S. Embassy
Internal Revenue Service
24 Grosvenor Square
London W1K 6AH

There's no mention of WHEN this is to happen. Does anyone know?
