Paying US Student Loans from the UK---HELP!! :D
« on: April 17, 2015, 09:57:21 AM »
Hi everyone----I’m DESPERATE for some/any advice about making payments on my US student loans whilst working in the UK. I have a UK bank account so am ultimately searching for the best method of using these funds to pay off my loans. Before I left the US, I kept my Bank of America account open because I was under the impression that this specific bank had an affiliation with Barclays in the UK so would make transferring between the two institutions simpler but I am unsure if this is the case as I keep getting mixed feedback from Barclays. So before I go opening an account I was just curious if anyone out there has any input!?

Obviously, I would like to try to find a way to avoid paying an outrageous fee for this type of transfer since I will be making payments every month but am very inexperienced in this area. I was also given the suggestion to consider PayPal as an option?

If anyone has any feedback or advice, it would be MUCH appreciated!!! Thank you :)

You can PayPal yourself money but you will still pay fees. Any way you send money to the US will result in fees. There's no way around it.

I would contact your loan services about whether you can connect your UK bank account directly. Someone one here was just talking about how their servicer said that was fine.

I use PayPal to transfer money.  There are some fees but usually only a couple of pounds.  It works quite well for my situation but, obviously, YMMV.
