Texas girl moving to London
« on: May 23, 2015, 07:07:14 PM »
Hey y'all! I just found this site and I'm pretty excited about it.  My boyfriend is taking a job in London for the next two years and I have decided to relocate with him.  It's going to be the adventure of a lifetime!  I'm working on getting my physical therapy license in the UK and finding a job.  I have never been to the UK so I really have no clue what I'm in for! It all seems a bit overwhelming but I'm hoping y'all will help a girl out 😃.  I would love to hear from any Texans or healthcare workers that have made the move or anyone else who may have words of advice.

Hi, welcome to the forums!

Are you looking into qualifying for a visa yourself, or as a dependent of your boyfriend?  (if the latter, do you meet the requirements for being unmarried partners?)

I will need to qualify for a work visa since my boyfriend and I don't meet the partner requirements. So far, I'm in talks with a hospital that is willing to sponsor me depending on my licensure being approved. I'm curious how long it takes to get a work visa approved if I have sponsorship so I'm beginning to research more about it now.

Sounds exciting then, good luck!  I'm assuming your registration is through HCPC?

Yes it is. It's under review now. It's been quite the process so far.

Do you work in healthcare by chance?

I do, but mainly in R&D.  I've been pondering getting HCPC registered to move into a more clinical scope.  The process looks daunting though... not to mention more money for more applications!  Visas, registration, citizenship... they love their money!  ;)

Hey there, where in Texas are you from? My husbands family is all in Texas (Fort Worth area) and we are moving back to Texas for 3-4 months this summer, before we head to London this fall :)

I currently live in Austin, but I used to live in the DFW area. I'm hoping I can connect with a Texan or two in London 😃
