ABC Channel in the UK?
« on: September 15, 2014, 01:19:10 AM »
Anyone know of any tricks to get the American channel ABC shows over in the UK?  I love to watch the Bachelor/Bachelorette, though I could not figure out how to download the app this summer so I missed it while I was in London.  (Seems like problems affected everyone, not just being in the UK).  Would be sad to lose my show, but it's a sacrifice I'd make if I had to  :-\\\\

It's not possible to view US TV channels or sites like Hulu online if you are outside of the US, due to international viewing rights and laws preventing it. So, if you try to watch, say ABC, online from the UK, the site will recognise that you are not using a US IP address and will block you from watching it.

Same goes if you try to watch UK channels online while in the US - I'm in the US right now, just arrived yesterday, and if I try to watch the BBC iplayer or ITV player online from here, I just get a message saying that the content is not available from my location.

One way to get around this is to view the sites using a proxy site or VPN, which masks your IP address and makes it look like you are in the US.

We watch US shows through VPN, Netflix and Apple TV. You can also search online for US shows, many of them are uploaded just after broadcast.

Yep I too use a VPN..
I use Tunnel Bear.. Love it.. minimal payment a month and get unlimited use.. It also lets you watch shows from other countries too.. Like Canada,Germany,Japan'Australia,France,Italy and the Netherlands.
For me its well worth the payment a month..

I second Hola, you can use it to watch the US version of Netflix or turn it off to watch the UK version. US and UK have different shows and movies.

It also lets you watch youtube videos where they are country locked. you can choose from several different countries. it's awesome.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I've used the VPN, as well, but remember that ABC is ridiculous.  Unless you have a subscription with companies like Time Warner, you have to wait a week until you are able to view the most recent episode.   >:(

tvpc.com has links to live streams of a wide range of channels from around the world.  You have to put up with a lot of really annoying pop-up ads, though.

Just to add: I've kept my hulu subscription running, and hola works for watching that. My partner also has altered something on my Apple TV (the DNS I think???) and it now thinks we are in the US. That gives us mass access to IS Netflix, Hulu plus, etc all on the tv in our room. We then use his PS3 to access the British stuff on our tv like BBC, itv, British Netflix and such. If I had an HBO account, the Apple TV would work for that as well.

I feel ya!  I am also a dedicated Bachelor/Bachelorette viewer and it was so annoying to be a day behind my mom.  Being a week behind is going to be so frustrating.

Install an app called Kodi, it's free.

Install an addon on called genesis, also free.
