Photographs for I-130 (etc)
« on: October 29, 2004, 07:55:27 PM »
I am planning to send off our I-130 petition tomorrow morning ( eeek!) and I am having a panic over the photo's- they fit the precise specifications on the website, but they just seem too big to me - I looked at my "old" green card and it's so much smaller - I am wondering if the new ones are big enough for a photo that measures 2" across and down??

http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_web/acs/passports/photo.htm

Help! I really don't want it returned for photo reasons!

The website also says untrimmed- but mine have been trimmed - in that there is not one of those white borders around it.  I have got it on Konica photo paper and a signed statement on letterhead from the photographer stating the date and that he took the pics (to show less than 6 mths old..............am I getting daft? ::)

Dear Sheril,

Yes you obviously were getting daft, so daft in fact that no-one replied to help assuage your fears.

However, not soooo daft that your photo's would get turned down as the payment for the cost of the visa was taken off the other kind of visa(credit card type) shortly after the US Embassy received them!  They should now be winging their way to the next stage- where of course, they could still be rejected................but hopefully not!

So in case the info is helpful for anyone else- here goes! As above- photos should be fine! Oh- and nice touch on getting statement signed from photographer confirming age of photos- even if I do say so myself ;)

Good Luck with the petition

Your other less daft self!

Hey Sheril.. sorry no one was able to get aback to you.  I am sure that M wouls have but she's in the USA at tthe moment.

I am glad to hear about the photos though.

I did have a question.  You mentioned "green card" is this the second time you have gone to the USA?

Just curious as we will likely be in the same boat since I am eyeing a post doc in San Diego.

Hiya VNP,

he he :) You caught me in my mad moment!!

Yes, this is the second time for me- which immediately puts my sanity in question along with the post above!

The first time was in '96 til '98 and it was after I married in the US (marry in haste............ ;)
and for many reasons didn't settle (my dog was here and I couldn't bear being without her anymore was the main one) , by the time I got my GC, could work etc, I was ready to come home.

6 yrs later.........decided to go back, Hubby homesick and I now have nothing to keep me here,  so time for a fresh start.

I have a SSN, I have previously paid around $1500 in taxes (ooh! gimme a refund USA!) so at least I will be a known entity and be able to work immediately - hopefully!

Good luck with your decision, I hope you are able to make it easily :)

Regards,
Sheril.

Thanks!  Just make sure you post back here mad moments or not!  We will be needing the advice and I always wodner what they will say when we reapply.  You basically go through London liek all the other Repats right?  Do they take into consideration that you had a green card?  Did you ever let the INS know you had changed addresses to here?  What is your favorite color?  Sorry went question mad!

Seriously if you don't mind I would be very grateful if you keep me up to speed on the whole thing so I know what to look forward to!  I mean life can change so who knows, but for now I think we will go back.

Hey Sheril,

I'm so, so sorry that I didn't respond to your question.  We just moved back to the US mid-sept., and although I've been posting here, my home computer was only set up last Sunday.  Prior, I was using DH's laptop, which I only had access to on the weekends (he travels during the week).  Your original question must have slipped past me.  I feel bad because we've all been there, with our own set of questions...

As for the photos, are you talking about the pics for the original petition?  Or the pics required for the interview?  I'm assuming that it's for the petition, as you're not at interview stage yet?

Please, please accept my apologies; I feel bad; we're all in this together!

Hugs, Kellie

 In order;

* Yes- same as other repats, so long as the petitioner is still resident in UK
Not sure yet, but they have to really (presuming nothing has changed like criminal      history/recourse to funds etc)
*I didn't actually (feel I should have done) but I did notify SSA and they could not have been less   interested- even when I told them how I felt about identity theft! They definately said I did not need to do anything else.......
*Lilac- the icy, pale kind! LMAO!!

I will be happy to keep you posted- I have never found anyone else yet in precisely the same boat as myself, so it's nice to share notes and I am intrigued to know also what they will think of us re-applying!

PM me & I will send you my e-mail address, so if I come across anything pertinent to our situation I will happily send it (added to say, will also share with board!)

Regards,
Sheril.

Hi Kellie,

Please dont feel bad- not necessary :) I was just getting nervous & daft, then decided to send myself up :)

I am so pleased you're home & settled, I can only imagine what it's been like to get your house/kids/hubby situated and I know you're feeling exhausted- so hugs from me.

It was the original I-130 submission pics I mean't and I am assuming they will be okay, I understand they would have been rejected at the London stage if not.................time will tell :)

Take good care of yourself & don't be a stranger
hugs

 :)

Thanks for your kind words Sheril.  However, I'm here in the US so it's YOU we need to get sorted!   ;)

When we filed I 130, we just went to a photobooth for the picture.  You're right in that you'll probably know at the first stage whether the photo is acceptable, which it probably is...

Have you posted it yet?  If so, did you get your NOA?

One thing you could do, if your concerned, is pop them an email just to see if your petition has been approved yet.  I DO know how unnerving the whole process is, and I emailed the embassy a lot with questions, follow-ups, etc.  I almost always received a reply within 24 hours.  Even if there was nothing to report to me, they still replied to my emails to say "nothing yet."

The emailing psychologically helped me because I felt as though I could "keep tabs" on our case, rather than just sitting around wondering what was going on.

Good luck.  PM me any time.  I know what a significant move this is for you.   ;)

:) It's been an "I-130 week" this week Kellie!

I got my Police Certificate back on Monday, on Weds I had my MMR/Tet/Dip ( and written statement saying so & batch #), then Friday I got the postcard to say our Petition has been received/filed on 11/11/04 and "should take 12 wks"...............

Wow! But your'e so right, it is a very big step for us as you know and I cannot believe we are finally able to take the small first steps :)

I take on board what you said about e-mailing and I am going to just that in a few weeks, just to make them aware of our presence! Fingers crossed!

Thank you for the support- it means a lot,
hugs
