Getting a job on spouse student visa?
« on: June 22, 2015, 08:59:37 PM »
Hello all!

My husband and I will be moving to Norwich this fall for me to attend grad school. He works in the IT field and is really hoping to get a job in his field while we're over there.

Uk.gov says that he can work full time as my spouse on my student visa, but I'm a little worried that employers will be reluctant to hire him still because he'es only here on a 1-year visa. We'll probably end up extending the visa to 2 years, but for now we're stuck with a one year time limit.

Has anyone encountered issues getting a job with this type of visa? Do employers "discriminate" (for lack of a better word) based on being a visa holder?

Thanks for any replies :)

I don't think that employers will be aware of the fact that he has a 1 year visa. As  long as he can prove that is eligible to work in the UK he stands as much chance as the next person when he applies for a job.

He might want to look at contract work (maternity cover, etc.).  His biggest obstacle will be not having UK experience.
