Driving question
« on: November 16, 2015, 03:20:16 PM »
So, I lived in the UK for nearly a year and a half on a student visa in 2012/2013. During that time, I didn't drive at all and also didn't get a provisional license. I arrived back in the UK in August of this year on a spousal visa and received my provisional DL in September. I know that typically Americans can drive up to a year on their American license, as if they're a fully licensed UK driver... but my question is, does that time "reset" based on my second entry? I think the answer to that is a no, but I haven't been able to find clear guidance for it.

Hmmmm...  probably a question best posed to your insurance company.

I would think the clock would have reset as you have been out of the country for so long.  If you had changed categories in country, it definitely would have been from date of entry.

The big risk is if you were in a wreck, would your insurance cover you.  That's why I think the question may be best to ask your insurance company.

Yeah, I've been looking at previous threads on here and it does seem now that I can drive for up to a year from my Aug. 2015 entry.... as I actually I moved back to the US for over a year and a half last time. But of course I'd rather get a definite yes or no answer from my insurance.
