US trained teacher anxious about the start of the academic year
« on: September 01, 2015, 03:11:31 PM »
Third year teaching in London.  This will be the sixth school that I've worked in.  Hopefully it will be the last unless I can get into an international school.  Anyone else in the same boat?  Teaching in London is challenging, to say the least, and I find the monotony of the GCSE's to be a real let down.  On the positive, there's tons of vacation time.  I don't think anyone would teach if it wasn't for that.  Oh well, week one here we go!

I too am not looking forward to the start of this school year. Two hours of A2 Physics first thing next Monday! Monotony of GCSEs?? In the four years I have been teaching, I have taught 4 different specs! I was just thankful that my subject's isn't changing again until next year...

I don't know about international schools, but I've really enjoyed the last three years at my indy school. Lots of different small roles to take on and there is never a dull moment!

I started last week, and it was so exhausting and confusing. I am feeling a bit better now, and luckily no A-levels at my school and since I'm new, also no year 11.

My year 10 group is small, and has a supporting second teacher twice a week, so that is nice, but the group dynamic is a bit weird.

Can I just say how much I hate form time? 25 minutes everyday to take a register? The students know more than me about pretty much everything at school, I don't even know what to do if they are not in the proper uniform, and I am loathe to take their possessions (no jewelry allowed) or tell girls to wipe off their make-up.

I will say, mobile devices are left away at the school, so that isn't a worry, but they want to get students using technology, which I think will open a flood gate of off topic usage.

I have literally so many thoughts and really should instead be getting to bed for my 5:20 alarm!
