First home-cooked Thanksgiving in the UK -- want to join us?

Hello folks,

We are naturalized Americans returned to the UK for a whole host of reasons (mainly family) after 10 years in Reno, Nevada. Since we moved back last year we really miss the Thanksgiving celebration. It just didn't happen last year but it is definitely happening this year.

I'm planning to cook a full turkey dinner with all the trimmings on the Friday evening to accommodate guests who have to work on Thursday. Can't move the Holiday, but we can move the feast!

Guests will include our family of 6, an American friend from school and our yurt guests. We gave up "proper" jobs in the U.S. to open a small luxury yurt glamping site in Shropshire on the Welsh borders in June this year.

If you're interested in booking a yurt for yourself, family or friends, please let me know. We have one 6-man yurt and our Big Yellow Tent (sleeps 2) remaining. Our first season has gone very well and we have over 50 x 5-star reviews. We couldn't be more thrilled. Ah - thought i was the only one here who spent time in Reno. I went to university there and spent a few years after in the area before moving back to the Midwest before moving here.  Have a good Thanksgiving!

Ah, we loved living in Reno. Skiing on the doorstep. Wonderful area for outdoor activities generally. Have a good Thanksgiving, yourself.

Just to be clear, is the food being served on Friday night ?  If it was Saturday, I might be able to talk the family into it.

Yes, Friday evening. Would it be difficult for you to get here on Friday? It's going to be a fab dinner. :-) And the yurts are very comfortable.

Yes, we are all working and going to school on Friday and we live in London.  No problem, thanks for the invite and I'll keep you in mind for any yurt related requirements in the future.

Yes, our kids are in school on Friday, too. I would gladly cook again on Saturday night, if you are interested. I cook all the time. :-) I'd love to fill my last yurt for the weekend. Whereabouts in London are you? I lived in London for quite a few years, too. Loved it. :-)

I am in Twickenham.  We've got a big love for Wales in our family so it's certainly a possibility for Saturday night.  I'll give you a call when I get a chance

We are actually on the English side of the Shropshire/Powys border as in the stream that runs through the corner of our property is the border. I am Welsh -- from Llangollen. You should drive up Friday night anyway so you have a full day Saturday. Breakfasts included with the deal. :-) And I just bought green beans and sweet potatoes. How many are you? One of our other guests may switch to the 6-man yurt and you could have the 4-man if big enough. Bit cheaper, too.

ust in case anybody is interested, me and my family ended up going to Wales and staying at Barnutopia.  It was fantastic!  The Thanksgiving dinner had everything.  I was actually planning on bringing my own pumpkin pie because you can't trust a stranger with something as important as pumpkin pie.  The fact that Katrina is Welsh made me even more suspicious.  I didn't have to worry about a thing! It was all perfect.  After a cozy night in the yurt, it was back to the table for pancakes.  Our breakfast companions were two British dead heads, one even wearing tie dye.

The place is really cool with lots to do and plenty of animals to play with.  We'll be back next year for sure.

Well, thank you, Jim. We enjoyed hosting you and your family. I'm sure 10 years in Reno, Nevada helped us understand how to cook a proper Thanksgiving dinner. If you were on Facebook you'd see a pic of the table plus the Leaning Tower of Barnutopia that your kids built. :-)
