Brixham, Devon
« on: November 14, 2004, 10:47:10 PM »
We're back looking for a house to purchase and have zeroed in on Brixham, Devon.   Does anyone live (or have) live(d) in Brixham and can give us their perspective?  What are the positives and negatives to living there - can you recommend it?  Also, any preferences as far as living in fish town vs cow town?

Thanks,

Sandy

Life should NOT be a journey to the
grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well
preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand,
wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and
screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

I'm glad you had a return of the mouse, Barbara!

Nothing to say about the places as I have never been to Brixham but my new favorite town is Holbeton....  what happened to Looe?

Personally I would stay away from the mice... though since one seems to like to run around how about getting it one of those mice balls?  ;D

I've stayed in Brixham and its gorgeous!!! Definitely loved the sea view and quiet, idyllic life there....

We live close by and when we visit I am always charmed by the harbor area - so pretty to walk along. We've eaten along the tacky tourist strip that most of these coastal towns in Devon seem to have [in my limited experience] but I can't speak as some who's lived there.  There seems to be a decent sized town center. I love this area in general. :)

We loved Looe, Peeps, but there were very few homes for sale that either didn't require a lot of refurbishment (more then we'd want to do) or no off road parking which we have on our list of must haves.

We like Brixham and had pretty much decided on a house but now I've started hearing a lot of great things about Ilfracombe in North Devon so....when we've returned from the US (going for T'giving), we're heading out there to check it out.  If it doesn't knock us out, we'll put an offer on the house in Brixham.

Now I'll have to ask if anyone has any comments on Ilfracombe! ::)
