Travelling to US after renouncing citizenship
« on: March 06, 2016, 10:54:38 AM »
I renounced US citizenship in Sept 2015 but have yet to receive my CLN. I have a letter from the London embassy stating that I've surrendered my US passport.

I'm planning to visit family in the US for 1 week in May.

I'll be travelling on my UK passport and have received ESTA approval under the visa waiver program.

Has anyone who has renounced US citizenship travelled to the US recently? If so, what was your experience at the port of entry?

Most reports on various sites indicate as long as you have the letter from the DoS stating you've surrendered your passport, you'll be fine. You might also consider taking any 'receipt' you have from the Embassy for the fee paid. It may state the fee paid was for renunciation. But generally, no comments are made by US immigration.
