Spousal Visa Checklist
« on: March 29, 2017, 06:20:06 PM »
Hi all,

I really need someone to look over my document checklist. While it's been great to see my family in the USA, I'm really missing my hubby. After the failed FLR(M) application, I really want to make sure that I have everything right.

Here's what I've got:

Applicant
- Cover Letter
- Printed online application form (paid)
- Healthcare payment print off
- Completed VAF4a Appendix 2 form
- Stamped Biometrics Confirmation Sheet
- Two passport photos
- Current US Passport
- Return shipping packing

Sponsor
- UK passport
- Sponsor letter

Finances: Category A: Employment for longer than six months
- Payslips from last eight months (stamped and signed by employer)
- Letter from employer (stamped and signed)
- Job contract
- Bank statements from last eight months (stamped and signed)

Accommodation
- Letting agreement for our flat in both our names (original)

Evidence of Relationship
- Marriage certificate (certified copy)
- Screenshot of our Facebook conversations
- Picture of the two of us to verify we've met
- Bills in our names (council tax/heat/water/etc)

If there's anything else that I should include, please let me know! Thank you all in advance :)

At a quick glance, your list looks good.

However, take out the first two months of payslips and bank statements, leaving only the 6 most recent months. They can only consider the last 6 months so sending 8 months' worth is just a waste of paper and clogs up your document package.

- You also need to include ALL previous passports you have ever held
- if either of you have been married before, you need official divorce decrees
- his actual UK passport does not need to be sent (and it's not recommended to send it)...you can just include a certified copy of the photo page

You just want six months of payslips and bank statements (not 8).

Include your refusal paperwork

Include the return shipping info or label (might be what you meant by packing)

All previous passports

Thanks! Do you know who can certify the photo page? We can't afford a notary. The cheapest one near him is £100 flat rate for any consultation.

I was debating on including the refusal paperwork, but I will now. Cheers!

Yes, you must include it because they will need to look up the refusal details and reasons when they process the application. If you don't send the paperwork from the refusal it could delay your application while they hunt it down themselves.

You are amazing! Thank you for the tip on the Post Office. We would have never thought of that one. And I definitely will include my paperwork now. I've included it in my list of documents.

Little tip from my wife:

For around £10.50, the post office will certify THREE documents. (You can't pay less to only get one.) That means three copies of one document or one copy each of three separate documents.

Since you have to pay anyway, you might as well get your money's worth. :D

My wife chose to certify three copies of her passport (they won't make the copies for you--you need to make them on your own and bring them to the PO), but had she known ahead of time she would have brought in photocopies of her driver's license and another form of ID to get those certified.

Caveat: This may be one particular post office, but it might not. Worth looking into. :D
