Driving test rant-oxford
« on: July 30, 2016, 04:17:31 PM »
Okay okay I know we all been through it because I have read the threads but I'm getting annoyed now. I have taken and failed the test three times!!!!!!  I have my fourth attempt coming up and I'm just in low spirits. With each test I only had 1 mistake!!!!!! But somehow always managed a major.

The first two tests were the same mistake where I was in a one way  ...making a right turn but wasn't totally over to the right. I wanted to punch the lady when she said if my tires would had been a few inches over she would had passed me.

The last test was a roundabout. I was taking the 3rd exit... So should had gotten completely in the right side but took the middle lane and slowed down to get off. She said I held up traffic when I did this.

So ughhhhh I been driving for almost 20 years in the states and you would think I'm some driving shuck here.

Oh, I definitely empathize - that test is so frustrating!  I agree that some of the things they fail you for are absolutely ridiculous.

If it's possible for you to take your test in a different test center, it may be worth considering.  In any case, good luck on your next test!  :)

Sorry to hear that - fingers crossed for your next test.

It's so hard to pass the test - it took both me and my brother 3 attempts each to pass ours - and I do wonder if they deliberately fail you on silly things sometimes. They claim there's no quota, but there were always rumours flying around when I was learning to drive about how they had to fail a certain number of people a day (since the pass rate is only 45% on average).

I failed on silly things as well... my second test, I only got 2 minors, but because I didn't come to a complete stop at a Stop Sign (I came to an almost-stop) it was an automatic fail! When I finished the test thinking it had gone really well, the examiner turned to me and said "You know you failed in the first 5 minutes, don't you?".

My brother failed his test for slowing down and letting a cyclist go first past an island in the middle of the road. He didn't think he would fit as well and didn't want to hit the cyclist, so thought the safest thing to do would be to hang back. He failed for it.

I'll give them the roundabout when I made the mistake I mentally said I hope they don't fail me for it.

But the one way I completely do not understand why they knocked me so harshly. I could understand a minor for. But I wasn't blocking traffic  and it's not like I was in the wrong lane per say.... She just wanted my car more centre than it was.

Congrats!
It's is a really hard test.  I am waiting for my second attempt. My first one I had 2 minors and a severe. I was stopped waiting at the entrance to a roundabout for the lady on my right to go and she just sat there so after waiting for her to move for a bit I decided to pull off that's when she moved and since she had to slow down I failed. It is soo frustrating.

It really is the most frustrating test, but that sounds like a no win situation you were in.  My teacher told me of a few instances where her students were failed because they did the safest thing, but it was still a technical error.  It's awful to fail because someone else screws up.  :(

Good luck on your next test!  :)

Always good to get it over with. So far we've been happy with the Polo we bought....although the turning radius isn't very good. Nice and quiet ride with some zip.

The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.
