Masters {American} in public administration
« on: March 04, 2016, 03:25:25 PM »
Hey there! As I'm getting close to my flr(m) appointment, I am starting to think about work. I have a bachelors in criminology and a masters in public administration. However, my studies were strongly focused on American Government and policies. Does anybody have any ideas where I could look for work that I could be semi in my field? I haven't really been looking a ton, just because I know vacancies will change by the time I am able to work. I have a feeling that I probably won't be using my degrees for work. And I do not want to go into police or prison work. I would love to utilise my degrees in some sort.

How did you intend to use your degree in the US?

The Guardian newspaper runs some job ads that might fit.

Hey Seattlite,

When I came out of grad school, the government was on the fritz (2013).  So after months of job searching I took a part time position with a Local county court working with victims. Then I worked full time in management for Starbucks, not so much in the field but bills have to be paid! I have a background mostly with youth from working with family courts and at risk youth in non profit settings, but just curious what other avenues are out there.

What about social work?  I know that the UK needs social workers so bad that they will import them from the US.

I don't think I meet the qualifications to be a social worker. I briefly looked at a few job postings for social work positions. unfortunately getting more education isn't an option for me at the moment.
