At the risk of sounding incredibly dorky...
« on: June 08, 2016, 05:44:18 PM »
Does anybody know where (if any) there are "medieval" themed restaurants outside of London (reasonable drive from Berkshire-area)?  ;D ;D ;D

Know it's a bit of a long-shot question, but still haha

Where I grew up in the US, there was one right in Boston but I never got the chance to go. We would always talk about going but it just never panned out. It's shut down now, unfortunately! But a colleague of mine is in Florida just now and she went to one of those types of places and just just whatsapp'd me to tell me how AMAZING it was. And she has decided that she would 100% go again and that it was literally the best thing ever....so i now want to actually push myself to go. But I really don't want to go IN to London to do it - although I'm assuming this is probably my only option LOL. I googled but only 3 things came up right away but two were in London and one in Scotland. I was wondering if anybody had gone to any others and had first-hand experience just in case there's one that's really good or something. I mean, I am fairly dorky anyways, but I felt like it was worth the risk of sounding even more-so to ask the question  :P

I've always thought it might be fun with a group and drinking beer.

To be fair, I think I could find anything fun with a group and drinking beer  ;D 8)

I once went to a Viking re enactment camp, it was awkward as they kept pretending to be Vikings and when you talked to them you also had to pretend.  I'm fairly dorky myself but pretending to be a Viking is a dork to far.  The battles were good fun.

While I definitely think I would agree, I am of the mind that I don't know if something isn't for me until I tried it. If the opportunity presented itself, I wold probably give LARP-ing a go haha even if it meant I had to get into character. It would be hard to remember to stay in character but give me enough beer and the thought process that everybody else looks probably just as cring-y if not more than me and I'm good to go! Pretty sure nobody else there will be judging me (and I am not one to care much if they were to be fair :P ). I did go to the viking museum in York once and I had sunglasses on my head. The lady in character was like "WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS ON YOUR HEAD! DID YOU MAKE THOSE?!" and I was like .....please stop.  ::) hahaha

God, that is soo cringeworthy, and they always pick the American out of every crowd just for that extra pleasure of humiliation.  Once I went to Hampton Court Palace and ended up getting picked to beseech Henry the 8th for something in front of a crowd .

My husband and I were one of the only ones there at that time so, unfortunately, I think I just got really unlucky because they didn't have many people to choose from. It was verrrry cringe indeed. At first I gave a witty response back and then she kept going with the "NO REALLY! WHAT HAVE YOU MADE THESE WITH" and I was just like ....please kill me now.... But the place was amazing other than that!

The girl on the end of the bench is great.

There used to be a Medieval Times place in Reading off of Tilehurst Road. My husband used to live near it. Sadly, it closed down in the late '90's. I'm guessing there isn't much need when there are castles everywhere. If you're asking for one, maybe someone else is too. Perhaps, there's a business opportunity...

I don't know of any specific place but some places of historical significance sometimes do a once a year banquet that is "Medieval Times"-esque but probably not on the same scale. It's usually during some sort of festival week. I want to go to the Viking one in York during their annual Viking festival next February :-)

I used to live right near there so it's unfortunate it's not still open haha. I'm not sure if there are too many other people asking for it - enough to make i profitable - but I will add it to the long list of business ventures I think I would happily start if I ever managed to win the lotto! hhahah My first order of business is to bring in a gaming bar someplace OUTSIDE London though, so the medieval restaurant will need to be tabled for now!  :P

Will have to keep an eye out for that as that might be my only option (other than when I go back to the US to visit, I could attempt to find a new venue in Boston or within driving distance). The viking one sounds cool!
