How much should dry cleaning cost??
« on: March 27, 2016, 11:56:13 AM »
Hi all - I've recently started dry cleaning shirts and got my first bill.  Just need to level set but in the US I was paying $1.5 per shirt.  Here it is about 4 sterling per shirt...  am I being ripped off?

It can be expensive.  I avoid if possible.

My local dry cleaner charges £3.50 per shirt....so it's probably not just your guy.

I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Hi,

Have you compared prices with other dry cleaners in the area you live in?

Which area or part of the UK are you at? I'm in the Slough and Heathrow area, and I think prices range from around £3 and up for a shirt.

Like any business, there is and can be variance in pricing. Also, in 'general' in the UK prices are higher when compared to the USA.

Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough UK!

Do you really need them dry-cleaned?
My man takes his shirts to a laundrette where they wash and iron them.  I think he pays £12 for 7 shirts.

Thanks all.  Sounds like I'm in the ballpark - in Milton Keynes area called around and it all seems to be the same.

What's a laundrette?  Mine are dress shirts for work so never had them done anywhere else but the dry cleaners.

Laundromat really.  However, a lot of places will actually let you drop off your clothes and they will wash, dry, and iron (if required) them.

You may have the option for laundered versus dry cleaning at your cleaners.
