So it begins!
« on: April 07, 2016, 01:28:14 PM »
Hey there! So, my future husband and I are getting married here in Texas(he's English) on May 25th, and plan to apply immediately for a spousal to join him in the UK after and before he leaves the states on the 31st. The first few days of June at the absolute latest that I plan to be doing the online application because I know how time sensitive the documents are. I'd like to be sure I have the correct list of everything I need before I tell him exactly what he needs to bring with him.

Here's the list I have of needed documents/evidence:

-My current Passport(Do I need to include a photocopy of his as well?)
- 2 new passport photos
-His sponsor letter(what does this need to say, exactly? Do I need to write anything similar?)

*Relationship evidence*
A) Marriage Certificate

B)Skype log(just random screenshots. I only have it dated from Feb 2014 because we *cannot* find any earlier which is pretty annoying)

C)whatsapp log(also just random screenshots but when the log is emailed, it's merely in 'notepad' form, so I selected random bits and got screenshots. I'll include a note about the format, I'm unsure if they'll accept it but I hope they will. For whatever reason it will not show dates on whatsapp just to get screenshots directly in random places. It will include some content but nothing damning or inappropriate, skype too. I couldn't get the evidence without it.)

D)2 photos of us(one from our visit in London together last year and one from our wedding and his visit this may)

E)printed boarding pass from my visit there last year and his boarding pass this year

F) Time/date stamped photo of the ring he sent me last year as a gift plus a printed receipt with my address and his cc information from amazon

G) A year's worth of mobile phone history- we never chatted long, it was more of just emergencies or to tell him to get on skype but it's pretty regular.

*Financial*
1. DLA letter- within 28 days of when application is submitted online

2. Printed statement of DLA deposit-at least one, within 28 days of when application is submitted online

3. Last 6 months of bank statements for adequate maintenance(must be over £115 pw after rent/council taxes) and within 28 days of when application is submitted. How does this need to be formatted to show how rent is split between his father, himself, and his brother?

4. Letter from home owner(his aunt who will be in the states hopefully for the wedding) that states we both have permission to live there, how many rooms, how many occupants.

5. Registered land registry (Does this and her letter need to be within 28 days of submitting the application as well?)

A few  misc questions:
When should I put my date of travel? I'd like to leave as soon as possible and I know that June is historically slow. Should I put August 1st? Will that have negative consequences if it's not processed by then?

-The 28 days applies to the online application being submitted, right? Or does it include when it's put in the mail, or when it gets to Sheffield?

-I have to show confirmation that I've booked an appointment to have my bio-metrics read here locally in the states and have that done within 5 days of mailing the application and evidence to Sheffield. Do they provide a confirmation I include with the online application, or what? I'm a bit confused about this.

EDIT: Wtf is this called? I see a shortened acronyms for  visas all the time. I feel silly constantly spelling out 'spousal visa to join him' if there's a shorter way lol.

Sorry for the novella! Just want to be sure before I involve my anxiety prone other half! Thank you so much in advance for your help.

For the date of travel, just put the earliest date that you will be ready to leave.
If that date passes, it will be made valid from the approval date.

The 28 days pertains to the date you submit and pay for the online application. It applies to the financial evidence.  The land registry document does not need to be dated within 28 days.

When you submit the online application, you are prompted to make a biometric appointment. You will print the appointment letter and take it to the appointment where it will be stamped. You then include the stamped appointment letter with the rest of your evidence and send it all together, to Sheffield within 5 days of the biometric apt.

It is called the spouse settlement visa or just spouse visa.  ;)

Also, it is recommended you send a certified copy of his passport. He can get this done at a Post Office, but you'll have to look up your nearest one that does this service.

If you have any other expired passports, I believe you submit those as well if possible. And again, no nee to submit his passport, just the certified copy.

I believe the letter from his aunt should be dated within 28 days, but as larrabee said not the land registry.

Other than that, looks alright on my end. I don't know the answer to your question about how the rent is split though :-/

Ah, I've just answered your question about split rent. However, it would be much easier if you can keep all your posts about your application in the same topic thread (i.e. post your split rent question as a reply on this thread, not start a new one).

That way we can easily keep track of your situation, see what questions you've already asked and how they have been answered without having to dig up all your old posts to check... it can save a lot of time when giving you advice if everything is on the same page.

Oh no problem. I was afraid it would just be lost in the wall of text I wrote  lol. I'll be sure to keep it tighter together in future.
